Electric and Company EC7

So, I have this hurtling towards me on a truck:

https://www.electricandcompany.com/pages/ec7-preamp

Sort of a reimagined take of the Ampex 351.

If it sounds half as good as it looks I’m gonna be a happy ape.

Apparently these are rolled completely by hand and I must say that dealing with Mattie has been a complete pleasure. I think he only sells direct through his Reverb page.

I’m really into supporting guys like this... Bryce Gonzales at Highland Dynamics, et al. Even clone builders like Audioscape. Ya know, cats who clearly live and breathe this stuff and who make gear that when you get it and use it, you say to yourself “damn! That already sounds like a record!!”

Anyhoo... that is all

Anybody else have this unit yet? How bout his EC6?

I have one of his stereo 601 preamps. It’s great. Very underrated company. It hangs right along side higher priced tube preamps. The bass DI input is really great. It plenty of gain for dynamics and ribbons.

This preamp is simply gorgeous... I think it may easily be my very favorite tube preamp I’ve ever owned.

The build quality is second to none... it’s gorgeous to look at. It sounds f’ing expensive.

Compared to the UA 610mkii (no compression) it’s warmer and does that natural, but subtle, tube compression thing...

Keep in mind that I just plugged a mic into the two preamps and sang a little bit through each just to hear a quick what’s what... this wasn’t a big geek a/b deal. That being said, I shall be eagerly recommending this to all of my studio nerd crew.

I wonder how these would work as a front end before converters to simulate the sound of an Ampex machine. It would be cool to get like three or four of these and just buss everything through them set to line in like you were using an Ampex 351.

Well, certainly the amplification stage...

I really can’t speak highly enough on these. Reach out to Matty... I bet he could whip out something for ya
