I mentioned this in another thread, but I have to correct myself.

Now that I had my reissue U67’s capsule tuned, and clipped the S2 wire (and an amperex tube on the way), it’s sounding very close to an original.

It’s also now beating out my reissue gefell cmv 563 (m7s) on everything. Prior to this, the Gefell had male vocals won.

I think if I had to have one mic, it’d be the 67. It’s able to record anything with ease.

Finally had time to mic up the baby grand and record you some samples.

I am 1000% happy with the sound of the Schoeps.

I am amazed with the sound of recording my piano in the living room.


It hasn't been tuned in a while but it works for me.

I also just guessed on the mic placement will have to read up on that.

I'd buy two Townsend Labs Sphere L22 mics.

I have one right now and only wish I had the money for a second.

Keep in mind they're stereo mics so it's 2 inputs per mic.

glad you like the schoeps (i had no doubt) but imo these two files show a rather weird stereo image, with the sustain (!) drifting to the right: what went wrong?

I can't hear like you guys hear so it is easier to make me happy. It sounds good to me. My wife even said it sounds good. Maybe the sound was bouncing off the lid and the music stand. It is probably the silly way I placed the microphones.

It could be the Soundcloud upload because it does weird stuff to files in my experience.

The one thing I hear is the lower octave does makes a noise when the keys are released. It needs some lubrication and a tune-up but not a good time for piano techs in the house.

But I can't hear an issue with the stereo field. I am a useless engineer.

In fact, I HATE having to be a musician and an engineer and wish one of you guys could set all this up and run the board.

How does sustain drift to the right...?

I need to intern at your studio

Might need that stereo AEA microphone after all this, cause I won't have to worry about phasing and can just place it like a big lamp.
