I was looking at a B2 Bomber ADC but was surprised to read it was released in 2011.

How often does converter chip technology get updated?

The input transformer will always be good but I was thinking specifically about the conversion.

Do you think it’s possible they will release a newer version?

Still using UA2192. Still sounds great. What really haven’t aged well are those u47 and u67 microphones. Or for that matter pultecs or the Fairchild 670.

You realize they did upgrade the converter in the new mothership card right?

Great, you answered my question.

Not a great time to buy a new Bomber.

You might get “mkii’d”

If a new model comes out

The mothership has newer tech.

I just don’t want to buy one and then a new version is announced at NAMM.

Not sure if they are the type of company that will offer upgrades.

Why not just get the B16 and get the newer card? It has the attenuation knobs on the front and if im not mistaken it uses the AKM 5397EQ which is their best converter they make.

Good idea. So the B16 is around $1500

Any idea about the pricing on the BAD4M? Around $2000?

Had the bomber for a little while and graduated to the mothership. I’m bias had a few converters along the way from apogee to UAD 2192, lynx aurora all decent but the burls just have a vibe that I can ever see going stale they just sound musical to me. Can’t go wrong 8 years or 18 years old. Then again I still love what the Moog model d and things like Sp 1200 do to sound even though they are decades old.

not sure how often converter technology changes and if so, if it's always for the better:

the design of my favourite converters (studer, euphonix, weiss) is quite old...

I emailed Burl about upgrading the opamps in my “old” BDA8 to next-gen BOPA14’s. Will @ Burl was nice and let me know it’s entirely possible at a charge per opamp. As far as the converters themselves, that could be a different story.

I love a company that supports *upgrades* to older gear.

If they announced a new Bomber ADC I'd be on it.

Maybe soon.

Woke up this morning to a email about a DAC upgrade for the B2, B32 and B26. Could see ADC in the future... well, heres to hoping?

Well considering the upgrade for the DAC was 200 bucks, I can’t imagine the ADC being much more.

And for a unit that’s 2500 bucks, 200 to 300 bucks for an upgrade sounds totally worth it. Go Burl!
