But, Avedis is hands down the guy I would call for 1073 work. He still occasionally works on gear for people, so you might want to drop him a line.

Great success with David Kulka at Studio Electronics.

Only one guy in Brent's shop now, new gear only.

Contact Dave Hecht... you can find him through his forum at R/E/P. Dave was the chief engineer at Record Plant and Conway... was on staff at Cello, Ocean Way, Sigma Sound and a bunch of other places. One of the best Neve and Studer tech's I've met in the last 20+ years... and his rates are pretty damn reasonable for the quality of the work he provides.

Peace.

I would call Dave Hecht. He is THE best. Avedis is also amazing and he might have more time because I know Dave is busy. Studio Electronics would be the last place I would call.

John Musgrave here. I do work with 1073’s. I stock bc184's 2n3055's 10uf and 22uf tantalums. I buy them in bags of 500. I have 470s at 50v both radial and axial. I also have test fixtures for the 1073s and other Neve, SSL, API ect. So I am completely prepared to do the physical work. Also when I set the bias on the 183 bd in the 1073, I look at the THD output against the input on a phase scope. I can see the harmonic content. I not only set the operating point of the output stage, but have found there is a sweet spot where you can balance the 2 and 3 harmonic content in the THD. When you sweep the module freq. against THD you can see a difference in both the break frequency and how sharp the knee is where the THD starts to take off because of bandwidth limitations in the transformers.

this is what i can say from my personal experience:
john has done very good work for me.
i have reffered him to other people and he has done the same by them.
he has been thorough, conscientious and fair.
i've seen him graciousy clean up other people's ideas of repair, redesign and installation out of the desre for it to rock and be good.

i'm not on his payroll, he isnt on mine, we arent dear friends, he isnt going to be my best man
i'm just a guy that makes records for a living and needs results.

so yeah, your mileage may vary
but mine is unencumbered by personal politics.
