Slate Dragon Hardware Compressor - People's Experiences?

What are people's experiences with the Slate Dragon Hardware Compressor?
What do you like to use it on?
What do you find it works well on?
Any feedback would be much appreciated!

I had one for a while. Was actually a cool compressor. Didn't really do the 1176 as much as I wanted but was a good sounding box. My biggest problem was the way it looked. In a slant rank it was just too "look at me" and distracting. Way too Poseur which is not my thing. I asked Slate if there was a panel option without the silk screen dragon, he said no so I sold it. If you like pretty gear then maybe it's not an issue for you.

My sense is that it was designed for drums, at least that would be what the various tonal options suggest. We have used ours on a hardware insert in Pro Tools on snare in mix to get little more snap, but my favorite application is on drum tracking when we use it on a Coles 4038 on the floor in front of the kick (FOK). It really makes that track more in your face with a very satisfying punch...

I dig it. It can be cleaner or nastier than an 1176. IMO the feature set and tonal options make it worth the sticker price.
