Favorite microphone(s) for that RASPY vocal sound?

Been "Going Back" and rediscovering the 'ol catalogs of singers like Rod Stewart (Mercury/Faces period) and Stephen Stills' solo and sundry groups.

What microphones do you prefer on these kind of singer's vocals?

Partly asking as I have 2 legit ranges.
The higher 2nd Tenor register is very "choirboy"!

Thanks for your responses.

I love the early Rod Stewart stuff! He was so much more raw then. I’d think a U47 type would be appropriate. Although Steven Tyler uses a C12 so probably a few options will be ok. A few simple cuts or boosts of EQ never hurt anyone.

Thanks Nathan. Right now my two best microphones for this are...

Soundelux U195 (New version) w/FAT switch on.
Stock Oktava 319. The 319 capsule is somewhat U47-ish, so what you said makes a lot of sense.

I think sometimes Rod was recorded with a Neumann, plus a SM7 (based on photos).
