PMC IBIS-AIII vs PMC MB3-A???

I drove to Montreal from Toronto in heavy winter weather to listen to the MBC-A.

Liked them ALOT.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to compare them with the IBIS-AIII.

Has anyone heard these side by side? Are the IBIS-AIII noticeably lacking relative to the bigger brethren? If so, in what respects?

The speakers will be in an untreated space of about 20x30x9 ft.

Yes. The MB are much better than the IB1. Midrange is better, bass is better. Way better. The MB have weight and clarity.
Quite frankly, the MB-A is mountains better.

If you were comparing to the IB2-A then this would be a slightly different conversation. But against the IB1-A (which isn't a true active unlike the IB2-A), the MB-A are much, much better.

Very useful info. Thanks.

Follow-up: the true active .... ie with the in-house amp strapped to the back ... is comparable to the IBI-A, but just "different"? I haven't heard it.

Note: these are expensive speakers, but I'm hoping that if I make the purchase I won't hear anything significantly "better" at or around the same price. (Subjective though these things are.)

The IB1-A isn’t an active speaker. It’s a passive speaker with an amp included. It has a passive crossover and a single amp.

An active speaker requires active crossovers. Without active crossovers you do not get any of the benefits of an active speaker. The IB2-A and MB3-A are true active speakers. Which also requires more amps (an amp per driver since they come after the crossover).

This is outside of the fact the IB2-A and MB3-A have better speaker drivers and the MB3-A is a larger design.

Great. This kind of info was not made available to me or, at least, didn't come up in conversation at the shop.
