Looking for Vintage Fairchild 670 alternatives

Hi,

I am looking for a (2 Channel) Vintage alternative for the expensive Fairchild 670.

On my research i found the following ones:

Federal AM 864 U
RCA BA-6A
Collins 26U-1 6386
Gates SA-39B
Gates Sta-Level
General Electric BA-5A
General Electric BA-7A
Collins 26C
Western Electric 110A

Which would you prefer?
But these are all mono so i would have to buy 2 which will be difficult to source and again expensive.

Is there another Stereo Solution like the Fairchild 670?

Vacuvox CL2. This is a rebuild and modified Rohde & Schwarz U23. The Rohde & Schwarz U23 with its design from 1953 has been the inspiration for the Fairchild 670.

If you are handy you could build a Drip 670. They sound unreal.

But the Rohde & Schwarz U23 is also just 1 Channel right?

I am looking for original gear from that era not modern reproductions.
was the fairchild 670 the only 2 channel unit at the time?

iv also postet a lot 1 channel compressors/limiters in my first post.
Out of these which would you choose? sellers advert them all as "sounding like a fairchild 660".

I just found the Collins 26U-2.
This is a 2 Channel Vari Mu Compressor with the same Tubes as Fairchild 670.

So i guess its as close as i can get with a 2 channel unit from that era.
They are quite "cheap" to compared to the fairchild 670.
Guess you definitely have not to spend more than 5 grand.

Gates Dual Limiter is kind of a BA-6A knock-off circuit on the front end, there is a later version that adds a SS compression circuit to the existing tube circuit, and that can be returned to original circuit easily.

The 26U-2 is cool.

I've had a lot of various mono vintage limiters which I've tried adding link circuits to, and it's very difficult to get decent stereo out of them due to differences in aging, on top of the designs not being done with stereo in mind.

I think you're looking for something that doesn't exist, really - most of the units you're talking about came from the pre-stereo era. And, as emrr pointed out, kludging stereo linking on stuff that wasn't designed for it is never going to work the way you'd like it.

There are a number of really good stereo Fairchild alternatives out there now. When the old stuff was reasonably priced, if not being given away (although Fairchilds have always been an exception), that was one thing, but now... it just doesn't make as much sense, especially given the maintenance/refurbishment hit you're going to take.

That being said, I still regret selling my BA-6A for $800 in the mid-90's. I bought it for $50. Sometimes arithmetic will fool you.

Why the vintage obsession?
I used an original 670 for years, had a modded federal [meh] and other varimu's.recently got the Unfairchild and although its not a part for part copy of the original its f*cking amazing as its own thing.

We might have a winner. Remember, by the time it arrives it will be vintage.

actually i am just looking for vintage gear but that stam audio looks really good.
But 3000$? does anyone got this? does this really sound like a real 670? Cant believe because its so cheap what would be a good thing of course if its really as good as they say on their website.
