Neve 1073dpd v Shelford

Hi there,
Some help required - I presently have a Neve 1073 dpd going digitally via aes to spdif into my Apogee Symphony mk2 ..... The question is......
I’m thinking of swapping it for a Neve Shelford — opinions? Is the digital converters on the dpd now quite dated ? Would the Shelford going into the Apogee analogue line in be an upgrade ? Love some opinion on the two units ....... cheers

The AMS 1073 is a staple in my project studio.

I haven't auditioned a Shelford channel although I'd love to.

However, I'm replying to point out the fact that comparing the two is very much a case of apples to oranges....the 1073 is a 2 channel preamp only, while the Shelford is a single complete channel strip with eq and compression. In addition, your DPD has digital outputs and the Shelford doesnt as far as I know

If you don't like the converters in your 1073 just send the analog outs to converters you like better

seems like your first test should be to compare the digital and analogue signal paths of the DPD going into the Apogee.. that would tell you all you need to know about where you want your conversion, and would be an apples to apples tests..

as for the DPD vs the Shelford, well that's a separate test.
