Bypassed mono device in one channel of stereo chain?

I got a high quality dual mono/ stereo chain. And I got this nice mono EQ with hard bypass function and symmetric connectors. The stereo chain has DI inputs additional to mic preamps.

If using the mono EQ, should I just insert it with an extra cable into the stereo chain? Ending up with an unequal cable chain on the L/R channels during mastering/ stereo recording. Or should I better keep both channels identical, using the mono EQ with another piece of kit to connect it to nonsymmetrical connectors?
