Here for the gear

Ampex 354

What are these machine going for these days? And are they a decent tube based machine?

Have found one - but has been sitting for awhile. Low hours and in good shape...just not a lot of info on them to gauge work needed or value...hoping for some input!

only bought by collectors and hobby studio owners.
the electronics do not have built in mic preamps,
thus their usefulness in ProTools land is minimal.

yes. arguably not quite up to the sonic quality of a 350 or 351.
transport is crude but effective, very similar to the earlier 350/351.

low hours doesn't mean a lot.
capstan motor needs oil.
transport power supply likely needs new rectifier and/or capacitors.

electronics are somewhat difficult to service, but it can be done.
power supply capacitors, signal film capacitors will be suspect.
if low hours, tubes are apt to be fine.
