U5 is the shn!t ..awesome on bass!

Is there anyone here that has recorded on the original EMI board who can comment on the accuracy of this unit? Or are there any super fans of the albums made on that EMI board who own this and think "yeah, that's that sound."

First day we had the tg2.... Casino into vox AC50 captured with an sm57 feeding the tg2 going directly into lucid converters (didn't have the time to go into the mci deck). Running the vox amp and tg2 for a clean sound it was instantly apparent that this was an electrical path of abbey road back in the day. When we ran the tg2 for a rough sound (leaving the vox amp set for a clean sound) we were shocked at how aggressive, snarly and hot the tg2 made the track..... the track had that 60's unique "broken up" sound that amps alone (at least modern amps) don't seem to do.

The tg2 is fantastic at helping to conjure that vibe of which you inquire...

Thank you kindly, sir, for the information and the correct grammatical construction of your concluding sentence.

Was looking at this pre and the 500 version, stumbled onto this thread, interesting and hilarious...
I forgot how goofy these threads can get!
You should see the DIY crispy panko breaded chicken leg I mounted a K-47 capsule into.
Blows an 87 all to hell.

Seriously though, saw the 500 appeared for AES but did not realized the TG-2 had been out so long.

She looks beautifully built, and it is great to see we still have several fine, hand built products with such attention to perfection in the details.

Hope to hear one in person soon as this thread does spur curiousity.

Thanks for the fun

...Three years later. I saw this very intsresting review on the TG2 500.

Chandler Limited: Crossing Through the Looking Glass: Thom Monahan Reviews Chandler's TG2-500 | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

I have been using the TG2 rack mount version for a couple of years and I really like it. Specially on guitars, it's big and present. I'm sure the 500 version shares the same characteristics, perhaps just a touch less overhead (I'm no expert, just what they say about 500 vs rack mounts)

Did you ever get or tested the 500 version?

Had a TG2 for ten years now. Fantastic preamp. Still holds its own against API, V72. Go to for guitars. Don't like the DI though.

Have not yet taken the plunge due to budget constraints.

Listening to several things tracked through these is causing some severe GAS though.

Wade is going to destroy my finances!

p.s. Nice review

Yeah they are not cheap. If you don't mind me asking, what mic preamp are you currently using, and what source were you planning on using the TG2?

Shadow Hills GAMAs, Millennia Media HV-35s, UA-4-710, building a pair of DRIP Redd 47.

Source?

Guitars, vocals, some drums...

Have to see where they excell in the given context.

The usual suspects!
