Custom Aurora Audio console

After almost a year in the making I finally got my new analog console for the studio : A custom Aurora 'sidecar' with a lot of extras that were added by Geoff Tanner.

I can't tell you enough how happy I am and how great sounding this thing is.
I still have things to do to set it up but here is a first picture of it sitting in the control room next to the SSL sidecar.

Here is a better pick taken by Geoff Tanner in his office.

Extras are :

- solo on every channel (with safe solo switch)
- custom remote that switches IP from MIC to DAW (20 keys keyboard on the right master section)
- attached GT4-2 EQ
- attached GT2C compressor
- monitoring section with alt speakers OP, mono, 2 user IP for playback, headphones OP
- 8 aux on every channel (via 2 GT10-8 absolute modules)
- 8 aux returns (via GT8-2 absolute)
- master aux returns on the P:G right section faders and Vu meters
- custom patchbay for pre-post aux sends and inserts)
- 2T direct IP to bus for the SSL sidecar
- custom stand

almost everything needed to make a sidecar a console

64 channels would have been too much for me but it's expandable to 30 channels easily (maybe one day)

Now I have a new favorite console !

Btw, thank you very much for the good pictures.

Hope this Aurora Baby goes to produce in series and not a singleton.

It looks like, it's the Aurora competing product to the Neve BCM10/2 Mk2 -16 Channel.

Looks a lot more feature-rich than a BCM?

My english isn't great enough to describe its sound with lots of details.
What I can say for sure are things that you may expect from any Aurora stuff I guess.

Pre's and Eq's are top notch sounding units. Channels and bus saturations are very muscial. Like anyone would expect it's not the more quiet beast in town and when you run 20 channels you get a decent amount of hiss, but it's a console you know !

The main surprise for me comes from the master bus. I know it may sound like a cliché but song running thru it is way more focused and punchy then the ITB OP. I did blind test with people that know nothing about sound and they always spot the console as "3D" sounding over the DAW. For them is subtle but for me and my co-worker it's really really obvious.

I'll give more feedback as soon as my first real mix is out.

Best

Hi

Less than this console..... Neve BCM10/2 Mk2 - 16 channel modernized version of the classic BCM10 analog recording / mixing console - Vintage King Pro Audio Outfitter

But with 4 band EQ, DI and VU on every channel, more channels and all that extra stuff like compressors and outboard.

Gotta give this another bump, question though how are the auxes routed back into the 20 channel unit ? is there an additional 2 channel input independent of the main channels ?

Yes there is.

The red faders on the right side are the mains for the auxes inputs into the master bus, as the attached vu-meters. I Also route the master OP of the SSL sidecar into it.

That works well !
