Though I really like the 1608, I am surprised it lacks group channels and no one seems to complain about its limitations. Even the SSl XL desk has group channels.

For those that have the mixer, what is your work around when you want a drum or vocal group bus?

So you can add faders to the left of the red master fader for group channels?

Yes, pretty easy to add faders (the desk is prepared for it). But those will be for the eight ER channels. You can soft patch aux sends to the ER channes by the press of a button (per channel). Otherwise you have to hard patch the 8 sub busses. And since you probably want to insert some kind of hardware there, you’re gonna do that anyway...

Flexibility for days. Still love the desk after 7 years.

best regards,
Johannes

Sub mixer. Like, a Neve Melbourne or something simple.

If I am spending this much money on a mixer and it lacks sub group faders, perhaps the Trident 88 Console – Trident Audio Developments with the transformers added is a better option or spend a little more for the Neve 5088. I see in the manual it talks about summing busses but every photo I ever saw of the unit does not have faders for the group faders. If you buy the flying faders you get 2 group faders. The summing buses suck in my opinion. For this price you want group faders. See page 27 of the PDF. http://apiaudio.com/docs/manuals/man1608.pdf

It's about your workflow.

I wanted balanced everything, stereo sub groups, stereo aux sends, and inserts on every channel. I seem to recall the 5088 lacks the inserts - "just use your patchbay!".

If you are spending money, get what's right. If it's the console, it is a huge commitment (wiring if nothing else), and not something you want to change a lot. Take your time, do it right.

Have you checked out the Custom 75?
