I know everyone on this forum hates the avalon 737. I really like mine I'd say at least try one before you count it out.

Not only a paint brush, but the whole paint brush store:

Chandler Germanium, slight color
GML 8300, really life-like
Qes labs Preq-1 channel strip, tube big sound
Tab-funkwerken v78m, vintage sounding.

I know the tele v72.
Didn't test the others.
Is it possible to get some audio clips to compare?

Depends on the sound you're looking for and budget. But, I can vouch for the Requisite Audio's PAL, and TabFunkenwerk's V72S. If you're looking for a more modern sound the PAL is wonderful. Plus, yet get one of the best optical compressors available. If you're looking for "classic" the V78, which is very close to the V72S, according to Oliver Archut, since it shares the same tube, and transformer. If you can wait, he will be eventually releasing a single channel V72, with a similar build to the V78, he now manufactures. Just check out his web site.

Tube Preamp

I have a Manley Slam and a Fearn VT-2

They both are great.

Acoustic gtr and female lead vox sound amazing through the Fearn.

The Slam is less colored but also sounds amazing

I did not notice the color or even like the Fearn as much until I recorded a stack of 8 tracks of female vox in a pop/rock tune that I routed through 2 1176's on 20:1 compression, a massive passive, and followed by an empirical labs Fatso.

It was one of the best female stacks I have ever heard.

I tried the sebatrons. Cleaner than the UA 610.

The Vipre can be thick, in your face!!! Tube Pre. The transformers are HUGE... But it takes up too much rack space and the price is way up there. Those are my only gripes. Very versatile as well. The dials and settings get you all kinds of flavors like no other tube pre I have used before...

Well, I wasn't asking for your opinion about that particular unit or Collins in general. I was just asking for schematics.
