What do you use your u47/48 for?

Besides vocals, where and how do you use a u47 or u48?

Do you ever use it with bowed string bass?

If the singer is also *swallowing* the mic, maybe LOL !

Which ain't a good idea with a 47/48 anyway, as it tends to lead to the problem of spit/moisture on the capsule. Given the high polarisation volts, they're somewhat sensitive to that (quite apart from being a fairly offhand way to treat an OG mic).

Tell them to back up a little. Tweak the lows a tad if you miss the proximity effect. Or flip into omni ('47) for more reach, if your room sound will deliver.

While they showed me their new U87 in the booth, I noticed they were keeping the door open with a vintage U47. I rescued it off the floor, informed the proper people what the doorstop was, and later helped them find someone to restore it to working condition.

Just vocals. I tried a pair U47 with a hope it would sound interesting on acoustic instruments, but it did not sound good at all ...

Sometimes as a front of kit mic - several metres back and about the height of the top of the kick drum.

I love my U47 on just about anything. Beside VOX I use regularly on Glyn Johns drums with a 251 or as a room mic, electric guitar back from the cabinet, acoustic guitar, percussion etc.

I remember watching that muscle shoals documentary on PBS a while back and noticed that many of their old recordings had that mic on anything and everything too!
