Flea 47 - Valve for Smooth Top

I've been using a Flea 47 for quite some time now and I love the mic.

I wondered if anybody else with a Flea 47 had experimented with valve choices? Any ideas of a valve with a smoother top end than stock?

It has a steel valve and it's not a mic that typically gets experimented with in this regard. Not lots of choice like EF86, 6072a etc.

Most "older" Flea 47s had a Telefunken EF12; newer ones seem to come with the Andreas Grosser EF12 mostly.

There are some alternatives e.g. Russian and RCA's, but you may have to use a different socket for those.

Prolly best not to "fix what ain't broke"?

I'd like to keep this topic alive and see if anyone has some ideas. I have wondered this myself.

I suggest not experimenting since the mic has already been qualified as having authentic sound.

Hundreds of critical listening ears have pronounced the FLEA 47 to be the real thing.

FLEA already listened to it and produced the version with the authentic sound.

Leave tube rolling for the high end hi-fi freaks.
