Royer SF-12 + Cloudlifter CL-2, vs Royer SF-24V

Hello,

I am going to spring on one of these stereo mics, but I am wondering whether it will be worth the extra approximately $1500 USD for the phantom-powered 24V, vs. using the SF-12 with a Cloudlifter CL-2.

Presumably, using the CL-2 would boost noise performance to levels close to the 24V, right? But how about frequency response, overall performance, etc.? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I thought the 24v has a tube? I'm curious about your general question too

There's is more to the story with the 24. It keeps the ribbon in the ideal impedance which helps with noise floor. I doubt the lifter will replace all that tec. If you can get there go big. People rave about that mike. I read sailing to phillidelphia drum sound was mostly the 24 and some kick. No phaze problems . Done deal. Sigh.... one fine day.

I bought a second Royer SF-12 after hearing one placed 6 feet in front of a drum kit.
Up to that time, I never heard the drums in my room reproduced so perfectly.

So one is usually designated to stereo room, and the other as a overhead for the kit.
And if the music allows, I will often just use the SF-12 and a kick mic on drums with amazing results.

I also have the stereo Cloud lifter, and use it with one of the SF-12's when recording delicate acoustic guitars. It's a fabulous combination!
