I don't believe he was mixing in the box.
Exatly, no mix in the box at all. It's not an outboard, i need to print.

I've tried to check burl with pad clock and the opposite too. I should say i heard more differences between the two converters when they were clocked with burl. When they was, burl seems to be way more darker than pad. When both were clocked with pad the difference between them were less, but still a very good clock.
In the video, when you listen to pad it is itself clock, and when you listen burl it's burl clock.
Thanks Greg and BigB. The DA of the symphony sounds really good, or could it be that its going thru the console?

after watching the video the PAD-2 with the low group filter enabled is clearly the winner. So much better than the Burl.
But i'm not surprised by that because Val makes excellent products suche as the hpba2-s which is the best amp for the sennheiser hd800s that money can buy

Would that headphone amp make a big difference over the headphone amp in the avocet? Tnx

yes absolutely for speed clarity and for control and extension of bass frequencies.
the impedance output curve of the amp matches exactly the one of the sennheiser hd800/800s plus the amp has a real balanced current driven output.
those key factors make a clearly audible difference.

Yeah.
Sounds great.
Still prefer low group delay setting as I did in the comparison files from earlier.
(To my ears most natural open and transparent).
Switching between the live console mix and Protools mix return it's the closest I've heard to the live console I've experienced so far.
Switching blind Im having a pretty hard time guessing which is which consistently.
I'm going to get a Brooklyn ADC in for comparison asap.
It's built like a friggin tank,very heavy.
The led displays are very bright.like a laser light show lol.

yeah classic is mode is nice but imo I dont really need it.
the api console is feeding a shadow hills comp into mastering pultecs into a black box unit.plenty of color and vibe there.
just a clean natural 3-d intact capture is needed.
stay tuned but I think Low group delay is definitely it.

chrischoir thanks man! Your words makes me happy!

You'll be surprised, but those guys are 20yo! It was a pleasure to record and mix them. When you have great players everything comes easly

Great job.
Question.on that mix how did you clock the PAD2 to your other converters?

In the comparison I checked each converter with its own clock when used. So, in the demo files you hear the PAD clock when you're hearing the PAD converting and Burl clock when you're hearing Burl. Both of them via coaxial WC!

So coax to your main console mixing converters?
The reason I ask is the PAD2 "D-Sync" won't accept standard word clock from my Grimm CC1.
I'm told I need a mutac or antelope style clock to get proper sync.
Kinda strange
So I'm m just letting it run free of the rest of the system
Which feels a bit weird to me?
From Val:
"to sync the pad2 externally, you need a unit which generates a 512x MCLK, this way it will
directly advance the internal registers of the PCM4220 adc.

You can have a clock unit that generates both WCK and MCK (I think one of the Antelope units does that,
as well as the mentioned Esoteric G-01) that are in sync, so you can have the MCK out to sync the PAD-2
and the WCK outs to sync the other units."

We have an analog Neve desk, Pro Tools HDX as sequencer and a Symphony MKI as audio interface set for pro tools system.
What I did was to clock PAD as master clock for the Symphony when using PAD, and Burl as master clock for the Symphony when using Burl.

I don't know what to do in your particolar situation, I'm sure that Val will help you to solve this! He is very kind and he doesn't stop talk to you till the problem is solved :D

Thanks
Yes he's been very helpful.
My system is fairly elaborate.
at this point we're kind of stuck.
I tried clocking the entire system from the pad but definitely preferred clocking from the Grimm.
Seems the the problem now being the PAD2 won't accept the standard WC signal from the Grimm.
It needs this 512x deal.

I'm on the fence concerning the teflon pcb's, because the upgrade is not cheap and I don't understand difference. Will it translate to better sound quality? I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger.

So far I like it.more open and natural and 3-d than the burl.
its just the clocking thing has me concerned.
I cant clock it to the rest of my rig.
I tried slaving the Grimm to the pad2.it sounded very different.softer, even the waveforms were pretty different. after a lot of listening didn't like it as much as the Grimm CC1 running the show.less depth.
the pad not being able to receive my Grimm's word clock kind of bugs me.
I'm going to have a Brooklyn ADC here next week for a comparison.
that one accepts standard word clock.
