This could be a good idea.

Also, keep in mind that most are sold via shops or stores. But not all of 'em. For instance, if you buy a Gordon 5 from Grant Carpenter, there's no extra link for wholesale and no extra link for retail. Likely the same with the one Jim Williams makes and offers. (I'd have to check, but he's here so he'll confirm or deny.)
Imagine what a Gordon 5 would cost if it were sold under the GML brand, to name just one.

Currently in production? Chandler Redd47. The hype is true. The AMS Neve reissue is good too. For straight-wire sound AEA TRP. So good I have a few of these.

Plus; is $2500.00 "Per channel"?
This would make a HUGE difference..
If you guys could give me a few hours I could add some stuff to my Pre and make over the $2500.00 mark... ha ha...
Wait, If my JM-130 were sold thru stores it TOO would be over $2500.00...

So; gear sold direct only makes a Huge difference in price as well "Per channel"...

Maselec MMA-4XR.

It allows you to adjust gain (and phase), but otherwise it does nothing, just like a great mic preamp should. At least for classical.

RND 5052, when one counts the super pricey power supply.

I've noticed that some people are citing stereo preamps as preamps over $2500.00. Should we be listing mono only?

yeah well the VT-1 is "over $2500"

ouch

but the VT-2 is also "over $2500" - so assuming the circuitry is the same, I guess the VT-2 has to be The "Best".

I was indeed referring to the 2channel NPNG DMP-2NW with my nonspecific 'NPNG' (which is thankfully less than $2500/channel)

I see it for $2565 new.

I wanted to recommend it for the "under $2500" thread. So close...

This thread is about preamps OVER $2,500...

I've used/owned/demoed a few boutique pres in the past...GML, NPNG, Great River, Summit Everest, amongst others. I'm currently using a Daking IV at my home studio, FWIW. Really dig it, especially since it has TS/TRS/XLR line inputs. I think the preamp thing is a bit overcooked...however this is interesting to see what people like!
