It does look cool, I think price wise it's several tens of kilobucks.

Mike Stavrou who wrote "Mixing with your mind" is one of the main people behind it. I did some assisting with Mike when I was younger and he is very much about freeing up the creative side of your brain from the organising tasks. Personally, I don't really see it catching on, although this is not to detract in any way from Mike's tremendous abilities. Still, I could be wrong. At least they included a scribble strip.

Smart?

Any connection to Alan Smart's work? A controller like this, but combined with Alan Smart summing and his C2 style 2-buss compressor on a center section, hmmm.... Just wishing.

I think its a Digispiracy.

Digidesign created a fake company for the sole purpose of creating the illusion that someone is actually make a more hideous looking console than the ICON.

I've seen it at the AES in Barcelona a couple of years ago, it's a very solid unit built with very good components, I've played with it a few minutes and seemed to be really intuitive; the biggest problem is the price, if I remember correctly the E96 with 24 faders was $120k

The channel selector bridge/meter is very nice. Seen the Smart several times at various trade shows. True fluid integration with software seems to be still an issue tho...

That console should come with a tutorial DVD by Captain James T. Kirk.

As far as great designs go----that's definitely not one of them.
I really love what they were trying to do.
Damn--is there no beginning to that designer's talent?

Well yeah compared to this monstrosity, but I can't think of too many other console/control surfaces that look worse than the Icon.

Seeing this bad boy in it's natural habitat, I'd have to say--it's got a look only it's mother designer could love!!. Man, what were they not thinking! All you'd need is a pastel blue polyester suit and a Chrysler "K" car and you'd have the whole "package"!

Except the K car might still get you a date while this console would merely attract some guy who thinks wearing fake pointy ears is cool...

You know, this guy:

Core system?

What i can't figure out is whether or not it uses some sort of core system

It's got to have some sort of engine somewhere right? i.e. The Studer D950

I tried scanning the website, but couldn't find anything very easily. Other than it lights- up...

anyone know?

I found the answer to my question.

Here's what I gathered from an above link- pro audio review

"Additionally, the usual review question, "But how does it sound?" does not apply to the Smart Console, for it neither passes audio nor produces any sounds. In that respect, Smart Console is a bit of a misnomer: though, by strict definition, it is a console, it is what is more traditionally referred to as a software controller.

The Smart Console is a full-featured controller system consisting of a PC-based console engine, a physical control surface and the Arc controller/meter bridge. The engine computer requires no user interaction and can be rackmounted in an amp closet or machine room.

The Smart Console features hot-swappable Arc segments and fader banks, and supports redundant console engines with seamless switching. Communication between the control surface, console engine and DAW computer is accomplished through proprietary protocols using standard Ethernet connections.

Configurations range from the E48/16/8 (48 Arc channels/16-channel strip bay potential/8 channel strips installed, $55k) to the flagship E96/24/24 model ($150k); the latter is the model referenced throughout this article.

In theory, the Smart AV E96/24/24 is capable of controlling up to 9,216 software channels of audio (that's 96 banks of 96 channels each). I say "in theory" not because I doubt the Smart Console is capable of such a feat, but because, in practice, our human brains would simply explode when faced with the prospect of mixing such a project."

they have 2 different lines - Elite and Professional - professional is a smaller version with lower pricing - so it appears that functionally it works like a Mackie Control Universal (ultra pimp version) by interfacing with your DAW application
im wondering how much for the smallest of the mix versions -

the p48 mix8 is the one im wanting pricing on

professional mix consoles:

P48 MIX8 -
