UA 2-1176 vs UA 1176

Are the 2-1176 exactly the same design as the regular 1176 only in stereo.... or are there....differences besides the look?

I'm talking about the retail units being sold today, not vintage units...

the ua 1176ln is made very close to the original. the 2 1176 fits in a 2u box so there must be compromise to fit 2 units into 2u. i have the 1176ln but havn't heard the 2 1176 but it's suppose to sound slightly different.

I've got the stereo unit. It's clean. I like it, but a lot of the time I don't hear it unless I'm whacking the signal.

I thought it was broken until I saw the resultant waveform being recorded. Transient response adjusting with the attack knob, phat vs. thin waveform with the input knob and ratio controls. Massive compression without many audio artifacts.

I highly recommend it, but I doubt anyone would confuse it with a vintage LN

Well, I allready have a Distressor and I feel like I need an "Attitude" compressor....
so if I need something with moore color, you guyes think I should skip the 2-1176 and go for the 1176 instead?

I will most probably be using both the Distressor and the 1176 chained when doing bass an vocals...

Yes, but you could also get a Purple MC77 for around the same price.

I've never used an old original but I do agree the 2-1176 is pretty clean, and I really like it. Same with the Drawmer 1968. I think my next comp purchase will be something with more vibe to it. I'm still eyeing the E.H. NY-2A. Call me crazy.

So how would you describe the sound of a 1176 compared to a 2-1176?

I would say that the 2-1176 has a thinner sound than that of the Urie 1176, not sure about the reissue UA 1176.

Not Much difference
2-1176 I kept

Maybe it was my particular early sn 1176
but I liked the 2-1176 better

So that's why they diden't call it "2-1176LN" ....?

Why would they make a "clean" stereo version of the most known character compressor...only to sell moore.....?
