Hi,

Sorry to hassle you guys.

Looking at buying some orchestral recording mics ..... has anybody had any experience with the TLM 50 , 150 or FLEA 50 mics ??????

Be good to get some quality opinions ...

Cheers for any help

If you want REAL M50's, I have a scoring engineer buddy who told me he was selling all his mics last week. (Last I knew he had a lot of M50's - well maintained). PM me if you want contact info. They won't be cheap though.

There is no substitute for a real M50. They are glorious.

The 150 fails to use a solid perspex ball, which calls into question its omni characteristics, in relation to the real thing. I've also argued many times that I'm not a fan of the circuit in that thing.

TLM50s never really caught fire, because there was a high failure rate of the capsules initially, before they switched to titanium. Not that easy to come across.

If I had to choose from the three, I'd probably demo the FLEA. I wish I knew more about their capsule, but I'll take an AC701 tube mic over a that hybrid circuit with an IC in the 150 any day of the week.
