Mercury 66, is it worth it?

Anybody out there tried a Mercury 66 compressor/limiter?

Is it worth it for tracking, mainly vocals?

If not, any other alternatives that you recommend?

I have 2 so I would say yes. Used prices are usually pretty good. Makes all things sound larger than life. Killer compressor.

Thanks for the reply!

Any other opinions?

Here for the gear
I have one too. Works real nice for me with my U-47 singing up close to get some proximity effect on my thin voice. I got mine used also for around $4.000.
I would also try to find a used one if possible. Then I would say for sure it is worth it.

This is exactly why I'm interested in it, and exactly how I would use it (only with my Flea 47 or AEA R44...wish I had a real 47, but alas, no).

Thanks for the comments.

You won't be disappointed then, we used it with a U47 for our last album and it worked a treat. Big and thick without the sibilance of say an LA2A.
