need advice from experienced slutz

Living down under I dont get a chance to try out all the headphones I have on my short list. After some research, my short list for reference quality headphones are as follows:

Sennheiser HD580 (just over the HD600)

AKG K701, K271

Audio Technica ATH-A700

I was hoping you can give me your opinions on these models, especially if you own a pair or have compared them.

The AKG K1000, Grados, or Stax might break the bank. The rest of the money is going towards dyneaudio or adam nearfields where I am not so willing to compromise on. Any advice is welcome

i have used the K271s and also the AKG K240s.
for some reason i preferred (and still prefer) the K240s over the K271s and over other models i have used from Sony and Sennheiser.

they are comfortable and sound neutral to me.

i have not used Grados or any model in the $500+ range.
while they are marketed at the audiophile market i am not convinced they are better for my purposes (checking mixes, etc.) so i just haven't needed to spend more on cans.

the AKG K240s make me happy; of course YMMV.

maybe some more people will chime in now....
