Anyone else using these insane mic pres? The Tab-Funkenwerk V72s'?
Are you loving them or what?

faeflora?
How are they treating you? I know you've had them for a while now, did you ever get any TAB or Telefunken U73 kompressors? are they hooked up and working for you?
Did Ollie from TAB-Funkenwerk refubish/rack them?

You bet. I've had a pair for quite a few years and use them on all kinds of sources. With a pair of Innertube modded 87's into the V72s', overheads are a dream.

I would just call them up at the shop. They are usually around. Amazing pre-amp. Oliver is the man!

I'm in queue for a V72s.

The price since 2000, Oliver says, is 3500 for a v72s.

I'm looking forward to it! ESP the Headroom.

While I am more than happy with my non-tube preamps (Millennia HV3 and Great River), I am curious about what a high end tube preamp can bring to classical and acoustic guitar, often solo. Think another nice, vivid color. I use Schoeps and Brauner mics.
So, yes, in a way this is another godzilla vs velociraptor vs hulk thread:
Has anyone ever compared the Pendulum, V72 (Tab Funkenwerk or vintage - btw I see Oliver is working on a new V76) and Fearn directly on these string instruments?
Any comment is welcome
Thank you very much in advance

Best regards
Massimo

For those of you own/used both, how do the Tab V72s compare to the Mercury
M72?

They seem very comparable, but I'd love to hear opinions.

Don't have that kind of budget for one of Oli's V72s here, but I do have a V78M, and it's fantastic. Just throwing in my two cents here to say Oliver has tremendously high standards when it comes to support. I just got back my V78M from his shop and it sounds better than it did originally. He really takes the time to do it right.

Cheers.

The V72 has no gain control , it`s fixed at 40dB gain.
Adding a gain pot is a easy mod.

Amund
v72 fixed at 34dB gain
v72s fixed at 40dB gain
