Slaving a tape machine via LTC

All I've ever used is MTC and that's accurate up to quarter frames (correct me if I'm wrong). I just read a bunch of stuff about LTC and apparently it's accurate up to 1/80th of a frame (again, correct me if I'm wrong). LTC is much more accurate than MTC then, right?

If that's the case, I won't be getting like sample-accurate syncing with it or anything (I didn't expect to), but is 1/80 of a frame accurate enough to get stuff phase-locked? I believe at worst the timing can be off by 8 milliseconds or so with MTC (a 'clock tick' happens every 8ms at 30fps with MTC), so at 1/80th what would that calculation be in milliseconds?
