Sorry to bring up the Monkees, BUT.......

I have enjoyed the Monkeys music as its well produced and not to be taken too seriously. I asked my sound / electrical engineer Howy about that gear in the video and this is what he had to say: "Wow the memories. As for the gear, I've owned all three of those pieces. they have nothing to do with recording. The top and the bottom pieces are military Signal test/generator pieces for setting up landline based communication depots. they were decommissioned in 1968 and the army surplus stores back East were flooded with 10 cent on the pound. Now the middle piece is a HP signal test/gen used for commercial broadcast. they held their value until 'round 1978. But I wouldn't doubt one could be found still in use today at some hayseed backwoods AM station."

Yeah looks like gear from tv studio. As for Monkees ...was mostly all good: catchy tunes, good vocals, competent studio musicians, clean mixes.
