Who's Using The MADA-2?

I was wondering who's using the MADA-2 and what's your take?

Thanks Ivo for your response.

I was reading this review on the MADA-2 entitled "In the pursuit of excellence - Forssell vs. Pacific Microsonis"

Here's the link In the pursuit of excellence - Forssell vs Pacific Microsonics - Matthew Gray Mastering ... CD mastering, Online mastering, Vinyl mastering, Surround mastering, Stem mastering - the premier audio mastering suite in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

It said:

Quote:
"After much deliberation Matthew decided to sell the Pacific Microsonics unit in favour of a second ‘modified’ Forssell MADA-2 unit to be a back up A/D for the first MADA-2 while also taking over the Pacific Microsonics as the primary monitoring D/A converter."
I was wondering what modifications were made and what sonically is the difference between the stock MADA-2 and the mod version?

Thanks!

I just heard back from Fred. He said they all have the modification now and are called MADA-2a

Thanks!

I have the MADA-2. Curious if he told you what the mods are/accomplish?

I believe I read on another thread today that Ivo commented on (correct me if I'm wrong here Ivo), but it had a tighter bass, more detail and width. Something to that effect. Subtle of course, but a noticeable difference.

There is not really "stock version" vs "mod version". The "a" version is actually a stock version for a few years now. It is a natural evolution - few things were improved and the result is even more perfect sound in all regards ...

Irony, of course.

Perhaps Fred can do an update on the MADA-2 to a MADA-2a!

Might be worth it!

It is not possible to update MADA-2 to MADA-2a ... Similarly like you cannot update a car from 3 years ago to this year model

Well, since this is a common question, I know the clear answer (from Fred)

Has any MADA-2 owners heard the JCF Latte side-by-side with the MADA-2?

Thanks

Hey Ivo! Have you tried the Merging Technologies HAPI?

I hear the ADC is most true to the source.

Here's the link about it.

You probably won't find many folks who have shot out the Forssell's against newer converters. I for one completely lost all interest in converters when I got the Forssell's, as I would imagine Ivo did.

One mastering studio did by running 1/2 inch tape through the MADA-2 and the HAPI. They kept the HAPI. More true to the analog source they said.

But to each their own eh?
Still can't go wrong with the MADA-2

I can't be happier with MADA-2.
Never looked for better, even have no slightest interest to have MADA-2a
It is great converter as is, there is NOTHING except mental illness that would strongly motivate looking for better after MADA-2.
It is rare in pro audio that product is well rounded to such degree.
