I got the flu/bad cold last week.

The cold and/or the flu are mostly gone but I still have a hacking cough and the sound effects in my ears when I swallow or breathe. This has been a bad flu/cold season in this area (and I guess across the whole USA). I hope others are staying well. The sub zero temperatures did not help the situation and it is hard to be an audio engineer when your ears are all plugged.

FWIW

My doctor says the cough could hang around for 18 day or more.

I hear ya.

Both my wife and I and a lot of other people around here got it right on the tail end of all the crazy brushfires -- it was hard to tell where the smoke inhalation left off and the flu began. This particular flu was a really nasty one, and my annual flu shot didn't do diddly.

Keep a watchful eye on your lungs. The elderly are hit the hardest and Pneumonia can settle in.

It hit us all here, too... Having a grade schooler and a wife that works with kids makes us ground zero...

I think I'll start licking pay phones to get my natural resistance up

In the "good olde days" I agree but I no longer can consume any type of alcohol says my family doctor.

Up until about a year ago there was ONE coin phone in town. It was attached to the GTE/Verizon/Frontier main switching building then one night it was gone. Don't know if it was stolen or Frontier removed it but they never replaced it. I watch the OLD detective shows and they are always on the pay phone calling "back to the office". Now of course they all use cell phones or VHF/UHF radios. All the nostalgic of it all.

I hear ya...this time of year I stay away from other humans. In my line of work a cold or flu puts me out of work until it's completely over with. I also keep preventative prescription meds on hand just in case a symptom arises.

My two eldest boys and I got the flu on New Year’s Day! Ugh. We couldn’t even get out of bed for 5 days straight.

Just starting to feel normal again. One of the reasons I’ve been posting so much the past couple weeks. Haven’t had enough energy to do anything else.

Coughing only eased up a couple days ago.

Gotta admit, this was the worse flu I’ve ever had. Just brutal. I hope you guys and gals stay healthy. Oh, does brandy really work? Never even had a brandy before.

This cold/flu just does not want to let go. I had a GREAT night's sleep last night and this morning started coughing and feeling achy again. Most of my friends are having some version of this...some worse and some not so bad. I just want my ears back and to feel like I normally do. I have an appointment with my Doctor on Friday so maybe he can prescribe something that will shorten the duration. (Side note: Probably by the time I see my Doctor I will be well). My condolences to others who are dealing with this...it is NOT fun!

It works for lots of things because its strong and you drink it warm.
It soothes scratchy throats, helps open nasal congestion and because of the strength, its a bit of a pain killer as well (good for aches and pain).
Of course, if you drink to much of it, it can leave you feeling worse than the flue itself.
