High sibilance, piercing

Hey guys! Question.

My set up is real simple. iMac, running Ableton and at times, Studio One 3. Regardless, everything is DAW/Softsynth based. All internal stuff.

My question is: My mixes sound real “piercing”. Like it’s this high sibilance sound on my mix, the louder I turn it up.

Would some sort of noise reduction fix this?
Thanks.

There are lots of things that might cause piercing, sibilant sounds.

Multiple layers of compression, high-end boosts, and more compression will often result in sibilance.

The best answer is to find the problems in your source tracks, and then don't introduce sibilance with lots of processing.

But if you've tried that route and you still have a problem, Harrison makes 2 De-Esser plugins that you might find useful.

One is specifically for Mixbus, the XT-DS:

and the other one is the AVA De-Esser which works in "any" DAW:

...those videos provide some details about how sibilance is created, and how to fix it with a de-esser.

I hope this helps!

Since you use Ableton and Studio 1, why is this in the Harrison Mixbus forum?
