SSL 4k split - how? who?

Hi guys,
I´ve been toying with the idea of getting an SSL 4k since a long time now.
My control room is too small for a really big console and my ideal setup would be something like a 4024 G+ or similar.

Now I see the big consoles with 48+ channels a lot more often in the market.

So, do you know how easy it is to split up a big console like that, keep 24 channels + master section for myself and sell the rest?
Do you know of any companies that would do this for me (maybe even take the rest of the channels)? I´m located in Germany.
Also, I´m wondering, if I could be cheaper off going this route than directly buying a 4024.

I´m a tech and also an EE, so I can at least do some work of my own.

Thanks in advance!

Christian

Yeah, I´ve been looking at some options and gotten some replies of vintage SSL dealers.
Probably it´ll be a better idea to just look for a nice 4024 in the first place.

Thanks for your answers!

Cutting a bigger console down is not such a big deal if it has been originally designed with a splitpoint by SSL and you don't want to radically change the layout.
It's "relatively easy" to remove the bays (each with 8 channels) on the side that does NOT have the patchbay.
I'd say doable if you have some time and technical understanding.

Feel free to PM me - I'm also in Germany.

I've chopped a few of these down now to 24, and also built one completely from spare parts!

If I was going to do this again.. would defiantly take it completely apart, then re-assemble.

It's much nicer in terms of the patch bay wiring, and layout as a 40/6024
