Exclamation Mbox 2 - upgrading the guts...

hey all,
Had my old mbox II laying around and i thought i'd crack it open and see what i could modify. with some internet searching, i didnt find much. i dont think many are doing this but i cant seem to just let it sit there, (especially after i tore it up trying to open it - thinking im gonna tape it back with a eddie van halen type tape design, haha) anyways, here are some of the ic's inside:

MAX4477 opamp (everywhere)
Cirrus Logic CS5361 (thinking the CL CS5381 might be an "upgrade")
CS 8427
2122 6024C JRC (dont know what this is)

basically, can i just find pin compatible chips to replace it and will that be an actual audible difference?(like the CS5381 for the CS5361?)? I read somewhere an OPA 2131 could replace the MAX4477 but can not confirm. i do repairs so im comfortable with soldering, but have never attempted a mod without any kind of direction. ill be glad to supply pictures or any other information i can.
thanks.
