EV Electro Voice BK-1 Noise

Hi fellow slutz,

I have been given a EV BK-1 small diaphragm condenser cardoid microphone (originally intended for live vocal usage) which I really like the sound of. The problem is that it has an exceptionally high noise floor which makes it a pain to use. I have read that it may be a diode or a FET of poor quality that should be replaced, but my searches so far did not reveal anything more than that.
does anybody know a few more details on this?
help would be greatly appreciated! thanks

Hi MicDaddy,

thanks for your reply and your offer. I am sorry for answering this late.
it turned out that I had indeed made a mistake in the configuration of my chain that produced most of the hiss. the microphone is very usable and has totally acceptable noise levels.
so, this issue has not even been one to begin with. I apologize.

concerning the actual sound of this mic: do you own any other EV mics? Is it a "typical" electro voice sound? do you know of any (EV) microphone that may have similar characteristics for vocal use? thanks!

all the best,
meko

Thanks! Any of those cleaner than the BK-1? The more I use it I feel like it is a bit rough and gritty at times.
