Level Shifter vs Re-Amp ?

Ok - I'll admit I've got blind spots when it comes to engineering so don't get all uppity. Here's a question to the folks that know more than I do.

The Ebtech Level Shifter converts Balanced +4 to Unbalanced -10, why couldn't it be used as a Re-Amp?

Even if not used as a dedicated Re-Amp, wouldn't the Level Shifter be the ideal tool for incorporating Rack Effects into a guitar signal chain? Doesn't appear that it'll hurt anything - but could there be some counter productive tone sucking?

The Ebtech is bi-directional, Balanced <-> UnBalanced, +4 <-> -10.

Essentially what I want to do is put an H3000 in the last loop on my Carl Martin Ocatswitch mono send/stereo return (which has buffering). Of course I could spend the money on some Radial Re-Amps @ $99 each, and that would probably do it - but just trying to find a more cost effective alternative.

I already have a spare DI that will get me from the switcher to the H3000 and I'll need a Balanced XLR "Y" Cable to "mono" the signal on the way in.
