Post Digital Archival Problem

So, I don't hide the fact that I'm an analogaholic. But this is not to start another "why analog is better" war.

This is an honest attempt to give some information. I just read this article, and I thought that you all would be interested in it.

File Not Found: The Record Industry's Digital Storage Crisis | Rolling Stone Culture

It talks about the problems labels and "artists" are having retrieving their archived masters. The Library of Congress stated that according to one study "analog recordings made 100 years are more likely to survive than digital recordings made today."

So I dunno.

Discuss, flame, ignore as you see fit.

I haven't read the article... But, if you are storing digital data of any kind, regular "re-writing" of the data to new media is something you need to do.

Two new hard drives every 4 years or so is pretty cheap.
