Where to buy Pot??

SORRY! Legit question. heh I used to be able to piece together any configuration of potentiometer at my local electronics store. No more. I went on-line to see if I could spec 2 units of a particular pot, and CTS was the only place that could configure it. Got the part number pieced together, but couldn't buy direct. Off to 2 recommended retailers.. no luck. Nothing in stock. They sent me to THEIR supplier. Ended up talking to CTS rep, who could piece it together, for a minimum order of 150 units and a lag time of 6-8 weeks, then would have to ship back to a retailer for sale to me. Rediculous, but that was the best I could find ; totally unreasonable. Does anyone know where pots can be pieced to spec and sold directly. Tried the usuals(Mouser, Digikey). The pots are for a vintage amp, and OEM parts are no longer available. Thanks in advance, Paul

You didn't mention the specs required for the replacements....that might help us find something.

State Electronics claims to be able to make up anything custom:

http://www.potentiometers.com/

but I understand small quantities will cost you dearly...as in maybe $50 apiece or more for any given configuration.

You can get CTS "Fender" style pots from Magic parts, Electro Harmonix, and mojotone.com.

Your welcome.

Thanks for the links, guys.

Brian, the 3 units that I'm after are from a 1968 Ampeg BT 100 watt transistor head. They are:
...............................
(Q=1) 100K log(bass pot), and (Q=2) 15K log(volume pots).
All are 1/2 watt, chassis mount, 1/4" bushing length X 3/8" width, and 1/4" D-type shaft(min. 3/4 " length). The originals had long legs soldered directly to the circuit board, but standard loop type would work fine.
...............................
As I remember, State was one of the stops in my search, and may have been the one with the huge order requirement. It's been a while. I checked the website, but couldn't get their PDF for 1/2 watt commencial pots to open. It looks like they may have something close. Lord only knows what the price will be.

tubesandmore.com didn't show anything really close, but had some other neat stuff. Thanks, Tony

Thanks again, guys. The saga continues. Paul heh heh

Either post a picture or send me one in a email. I got pots from Fender, Marshall, Ampeg, Crate, Peavey, etc.

I may have something that's close.

Paul, the long-ish D shaft and the log tapers do indeed narrow down your choices. I think your only choice would be to scout around the "specialists" that cater to Ampeg/whatever amps and keep your fingers crossed.
