GML 8200 mods?

Has anyone here modified, or even done any substantial repair work on a GML 8200? Any general wisdom/warnings on these beasts before I dig in?

Ive got one I use for mastering and was thinking of swapping out the boost/cut pots for stepped switches, or perhaps just adding switches to limit the total boost/cut range to say 6 dB or so.

I can't believe someone else hasn't done a similar mod to one of these, but searching the web I came up with *nothing*.

If GM or someone at his firm reads this, I apologize in advance for the sacrelige, but I just can't pony up for a 9500.
