Question How to power rack panel fans?

Ηere's the deal- I want to add a rack panel with fans to cool one of my racks.
I have the Adam Hall 3U rack panel (for 2 fans) and two Zalman "quite" fans (12V, 0.25A).

My question is, how can I power the fans, so that I can switch them on/off when I want to?

Any ideas and suggestions welcome.

Thank you!

For 12VDC, look for a power supply intended to drive automotive audio electronics from 120 VAC mains. I have one here that came from Radio Shack (and no idea HOW it came into my possession!).

If you have a computer in there, you could add a plug to the case, wire the +12v from the case supply to it, and have a 12v output. Then, you can run a pair of wires from there to a switch (that you can mount on the fan pannel). The other side of the switch can be connected to the fans.

You can substitute a 12v wall wart as well.

Although it is not cheap, Middle Atlantic makes a peice that is designed to do exactly what you speak of.. it has a variable speed fan power supply triggered from a heat sensor and even tells you the ambient temp in the rack.

the preassembled unit is also cool if you dont already have the fans:

To many, I know Middle Atlantic is somewhat the MONSTER fo the rack industry, but there are products that they have that really shine, and this is one of them IMHO.
