Are THAT 2150a vca's the same thing as a dbx 2150 vca?

THAT Corp, was spun out of DBX to sell VCA and ICs years ago.. the 2150a is same general part as 2150, 'a' may indicate some difference in a performance specification.

Yes, the 2150 is the same. If you're replacing a bad part, that's what you probably want. If you're building something from scratch or are trying to improve the performance of an existing piece, you should probably change over to the 2180 or 2181. There are some differences in the surrounding circuitry that need to be made, but the 2181A is the highest performance part. A, B, and C are grades of performance, based primarily on the distortion spec. A is the best (lowest distortion) and C is the worst. The 2181 and 2151 are trimmable for lowest distortion, whereas the 2150 and 2180 are pre-trimmed but not as low as the 21X1 stuff when properly trimmed.

Ideal starting point for Roland 80017A Emulation?

Is this possibly, along with the LM13700 or similar, a good way to start developing a replacement for the now extinct 80017A in various Roland products? see Obsoletetechnology website link:
