Auditronics 501 Power supply

I am restoring my Auditronics 26 channel Son of 36 Grand console.
I have seen many posts suggesting a replacement of the power supply which I want to do as the original is unreliable when powering on .
I have found a Acopian VTD-15-850M dual tracking supply, would this be appropriate to replace the original 15+- 3amp supply ?
cheers
DK

Acopian is certainly the Cadillac of power supplies. I wouldn't hesitate to use an Acopian on any audio gear.

Unless you expect to be operating in hellish temperatures, (over 71°C or 160°F) I don't think you need the 8.5A version.
I would fully expect that 4.5A version would be more than adequate for a 3A load.
Unless the load is really larger than 3A, or you expect to expand the desk?

I have a chance to buy this as a used supply at a significant saving to a new one rated at 4.5A.
I am considering doing modifications to the console , discrete op amps in the groups modules and master buss ,replace the original IC”s.which I gather will draw more current .
The console operation with a 8.5A supply will not do it any harm?
Cheers

Using a supply capable of MORE current will not harm the console.
An electronic load like your console will typically draw only as much current as it needs.
Only a faulty circuit (or certain components like LEDs) will draw excessive current and cause damage.
If you can get a good deal on the 8.5A supply, then good for you. Go for it.

3 amps seems shy for a console that large.

That 3A fuse may be on the mains input, not on the DC supply to the console. Especially since there is only one and there are likely two supplies (positive and negative relative to ground.)
