SSL Sigma keeps freezing

Hello All,

After many exchanges with SSL support and before making a warranty claim, I thought it might be useful to share my problem here.

After about a year without a glitch, I noticed that my Sigma would freeze from time to time.

By "freeze", I mean that the meters are suddenly stuck, the sound still passes through but the ethernet connexion to the computer is lost (I use a mac and in networking pref panel it says that the cable is disconnected and the dot turns red as if the unit was not on)

Those freezes became more and more frequent, up to the point that it now happens within minutes after boot-up.

Booting up has also become unpredictable, sometimes is hangs with all lights on or half of the meters plus the peak led, and stays there.

SSL people tell me that this behaviour is the result of the loss of ethernet connexion and that the problem likely lies with my setup rather than the Sigma. As a matter of fact, I must admit that the problem arose some weeks after I changed the studio's Mac, but I've connected the Sigma in all possible ways (built-in ports and additional thunderbolt to ethernet adapter). I tried with ipMidi (which I don't actually need, i used the Sigma for one year without it) and then removed it.

I've come to the point where I don't see what I could try to fix that and will soon turn to the dealer for warranty but, just in case on of you comes with a suggestion, you're welcome :-)

[not to brag but for information, I also professionally develop web sites so, while not a specialist, I'm quite at ease with networking setups]

Have a nice week-end,

I am in the exact same situation but I haven’t contacted support yet. Did you find a solution? Thanks.

I eventually contacted SSL and I am glad to say they've been fantastic help and very responsive. I confess, after many years as engineer in a 3 SSL studio complex, that I was a bit biased towards the possibility that, unless you owned a 9096 K XL, you wouldn't get much attention, but that was absolutely not the case.

We did many tests and they concluded that the unit was faulty and, as it was still under warranty, replaced it under the condition that the warranty would not be extended, which I consider fair.

I never really knew what was wrong with it, but my best guess is that the Sigma's network interface was the culprit, but then again, I may be wrong on that.

Lived happily ever after ;-)

Thank you so much, I have a feeling I might have a faulty unit as well. I’ll contact them ASAP. I am glad it all worked out for you. Cheers
