Hairball Audio 1176 Rev D vs UA 6176 vs CLA 1176 Plugin

Hey there, thought someone might be interested in this.. I recently built a hairball audio rev d 1176.. Very impressed with the outcome. I have a UA 6176 and it blows away the 1176 on that..

I thought id throw up a comparison test to see which one you like better..

This track was recorded live. Vocal was mixed with a small amount of EQ into:
A CLA 1176 plugin
My hairball audio 1176 Rev D
A UA 6176

Im not going to tell which is which and would love to get your thought on which you like best and which to think is the plugins etc..

I over compressed just so you can hear. I match the amount of compression and tried to match the outputs as best i could.

Thank you for the test - and wow, she's got a lovely voice. Way to do it justice. Nice work!

3 and 1 both have strengths and weaknesses. 3 sounds a bit more full to me, but 1 sounds a bit smoother. 2 is not good.

How did you process this stereo track with a single 1176 clone? Or are you saying you processed all of the individual tracks while tracking or mixing?

3 is big and smooth. It sounds very nice.

But I preferred 1. It had more character and better suited the emotional tenor of the song.

1, 3, 2 for me.

Didn't look at the results FWIW.

I liked the resonance and grit on 1. The character of the vocals seemed to be stronger IMO. Maybe it was simply more compressed but I liked it better.

I always liked the CLA on vocals (blueface for me here) but I still like my hardware better. No contest on drums.

yes... the UA6176 sounds best but the Hairball is very near to it. The Plugin sounds muffled and small - not elegant.
