Mic shootout: Neumann TLM102 vs Neumann TLM103 vs JZ V47 vs Violet Design Dolly

A few weeks ago I asked you guys for advice on a warm sounding mic to compliment my TLM103.

Here are the results of the shootout: Microfoon shootout (Neumann TLM103 vs Neumann TLM 102 vs JZ V47 vs Violet Design Dolly) by Scoobs1971 on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
On request I can also send the original .wav-files.

Unfortunately I had to make a new recording for every mic as I only have 1 preamp. All recordings were made within 30 minutes and from the same distance to the mic in order to maintain the same vocal sound.
On the VT737 no EQ or lowcut were used, only the pre and some gentle compression. Recording @ -12dbfs peaks. After recording I gain matched the waves to rule out differences in level.

Just curious to hear what everybody think is the best mic for each vocalist.
Note that the letters do not correspond with the mics named in the title

I prefer B on both vocalists. It might be because it sounds a bit more compressed and louder.

I like A for the 1st vocalist.
D for the second.
Mind you, I only listened to it on my MBP speakers.

IMO:

JSM D: sounds too dully - like a carpet over the mic
JSM A: is the opposite of D: too harsh
JSM B: i like this one the best - maybe could have bit more "air"
JSM C: sounds a bit too compressed to me - the "s" are strange

thanks for the files!
listened over Macbook Soundcard with BlueSky ProDesk 2.1

cheers

I thought everything sounded a bit clearer on Roger.
I think I preferred A and B on both singers though.

Honestly the only clip that I actually didn't like the sound of was Mic D on Johnny.

so when do we find out what's what?

A: really dont like it, high mids and mids dont sound well together, as other said before, its harsh, little annoying. Maybe it works better with other sources.
B: Its bright but not harsh, its ok
C: I dont like jhonny, but like roger, they sound totally different.
D: Its ok, little dark.

The mic i wouldnt use is A, just dont like it.

All the rest, depends on the mix, it would be a better comparison if they were recorded at the same time, level and compression.

I guess.. a&b are neumann?

Thnx, guys!
The search is to see if I need to find a better mic for Roger. Johnny is here only for comparison. It's interesting to hear the results of the same mics on 2 completely different sounding vocalists, though.

I like B on both, it sounds well ballanced , warm, natural and enough highs.

I like B and C the most, B a little better as it's somewhat brighter but not harsh.

Though I'm at the moment looking to buy one of these and I'm desperately waiting for the answer on which one is which :D

Care to spill the beans which is which?

I echo the previous sentiments:
B seems just right, A was too bright/harsh and noticably sharper on S-sounds, D was a bit darker, bordering on dull. And C I don't have an opinion of.

The results:
A = TLM 102
B = TLM 103
C = Dolly
D = V47

How ironic that most have chosen the mic I already have

I thought Johnny was hard to listen to - i guess i didn't like his voice. Roger's voice is cool, and i think i liked D the best, although i knew what mic i was listening to. Realistically, the differences are subtle.

My vocals never sounded better than on a 103 thru a tubescence pre. Worth the price over the 102.
