Interesting. The Liquid Saffire beating the SSL must be the patch bay i went through. Surprised the Saffire out performed the previous result, though. Probably disregard the SSL, then.

As a pre-cursor to my upcoming Apogee Element, I decided to test my MacBook Pro (mid 2014):

MBP2014.zip

I had a heck of a time setting this up... first I realized I needed something like Soundflower, so I installed that. And then my recorded playback file was so much hotter than the original -- I realized it was recording the metronome as well.

Anyway, let me know if this recorded ok or if I need to re-do it. Thanks Didier!

Hmmm... maybe because it was an .aif? It played back fine on my end, and it looked ok (visually) in Audacity and other apps.

I will export as a .WAV and see if that helps.

Sorry, it is the same. The first error burst can be seen on your screen shot as a drop-out at about 27 s.

I read your file and Original2 in Matlab and plotted their difference level in dB:
Ori = audioread('Original2.wav');
MBP = audioread('MBP2014-wav.wav');

which provides the attached picture.

You could get a similar result in an audio editor by reversing polarity of one file, then adding it to the other one.

List of results updated with tests of SSL Alpha-Link AX and Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56

DA-AD loops from this wav file evaluated by means of Audio DiffMaker.

'Difference' indicates RMS level figures measured in Wavelab from the difference file delivered by Audio DiffMaker.
'Difference*' indicates RMS level figures got from a difference file generated in Matlab after refining the time offset and gain figures provided by Audio DiffMaker in order to get the lowest difference level. Hence the 'Difference*' figures are lower than the 'Difference' figures.

Unsynchronized mode. The DA and AD converters run each on its own clock. Measurement performed with sample rate drift correction activated in Audio DiffMaker and limited to the first half of the sample. Hi!

Here are testfiles for a Tascam SX-1. A portastudio deluxe from 2001.
the latency is about 1.7 ms. And the file is a couple of decibels below original file.
