Word! And much of this wrongness doesn't show up when merely measuring.

'Difference' indicates RMS level figures measured in Wavelab from the difference file delivered by Audio DiffMaker.
'Difference*' indicates RMS level figures got from a difference file generated in Matlab after refining the time offset and gain figures provided by Audio DiffMaker in order to get the lowest difference level. Hence the 'Difference*' figures are lower than the 'Difference' figures.

Unsynchronized mode. The DA and AD converters run each on its own clock. Measurement performed with sample rate drift correction activated in Audio DiffMaker and limited to the first half of the sample. Because the RMS level of this first half is 1 dB lower than the RMS level of the full-size sample, one must increase the difference RMS level figures by 1 dB for comparison with the synchronized mode.

Funny how the Symphony is supposed to "replace" the Rosetta which is no1 here, while the Symphony is down low.

I'm after a second hand DAD 2402 but their AX24 scores just like the Behringer unit. confusing !

Rosetta 800 figures corrected (see 5 posts further).

AD-DA loops from this wav file evaluated by means of Audio DiffMaker.

'Difference' indicates RMS level figures measured in Wavelab from the difference file delivered by Audio DiffMaker.
'Difference*' indicates RMS level figures got from a difference file generated in Matlab after refining the time offset and gain figures provided by Audio DiffMaker in order to get the lowest difference level. Hence the 'Difference*' figures are lower than the 'Difference' figures.

Unsynchronized mode. The DA and AD converters run each on its own clock. Measurement performed with sample rate drift correction activated in Audio DiffMaker and limited to the first half of the sample. I've also got a Universal Audio 4-710D, and API A2D A/D converters as well as the Mytek Stereo 96 DAC so should be able to do a fair amount of combinations - just involves a bit of cable changing which I couldn't do last night.

The 2 UA-1000 can actually be combined for 20x20 inputs, so that would be another combination - using the DAC for the master UA-1000, and the A/D of the 'slave'

Much interesting ! I would be especially interested in an unsynchronised loop recorded by means of your two UA-1000 units. This is because the jitter is not properly taken into account a synchronised loopback test. Hence comparing the results from a synchronised test (done) and an unsynchronised test would be of interest.

The files related to 'Difference' figures are generated by Audio DiffMaker. It is more complicated for the files related to 'Difference*' figures that are generated in Matlab. Up to now, I did not save any difference file. I just have regenerated the files for the Motu and the Rosetta. Here below the instructions that I have used in Matlab for doing that for the Motu, for which the time offset is -1.1713 ms and the gain corrections are -0.062 dB (L) and -0.044 dB (R).

After opening Original2.wav by double click on the file:

which saves the difference file for the left channel, which I have uploaded here. Then I did the same for the right channel by replacing data(:,1) by data(:,2), and 0.062 by 0.044. I got the answer -57.9916, the level in dBFS of the right channel of the difference. The resulting difference file for the left channel is here.

Then I did the same for the Rosetta from the time offset and gain corrections values given here. But I did not found again the same low values for the difference levels. I don't know what I did wrong in my first computation.
Instead of -860.8µsec, 0.242dB (L), 0.223dB (R), I found that the lowest difference level is achieved for -858.8µsec, 0.241dB (L), 0.223dB (R) . Overall, instead of -64.0 dBFS (L), -63.2 dBFS (R), I found -50.9 dBFS (L) and -50.0 dBFS (R), which makes a great difference...

that is strange about the Rosetta 800 results. that was actually the unit/file that was confusing me and why i asked for the difference file. i can usually get pretty close to these figures but with that one i was way off.
anyway, thanks for the time and effort on this thread. interesting stuff.

here is one for fun, but it might be interesting as well. i did some basic measurements/tests and i think this unit will do fairly well. i also did a quick/rough null test and it seems to be close to the duet usb or mr816x for difference level.
this is a loopback of my 2011 MBP 15". i used the 1/8" headphone output to the 1/8" line input with a hi-quality radio shack cable.
the input and output were both set to '0' in audio/midi settings (aka core audio mixer), which seems to be about unity. didn't bother making any level adjustments. core audio set 32 bit float.
one thing i noticed when 'calibrating' in/out with tones is that it was impossible for me to get exact levels between the left and right. not a very hi-res slider i guess.
anyway, here is the link to the loopback file, no adjustments were made here.

Unsynchronized mode. The DA and AD converters run each on its own clock. Measurement performed with sample rate drift correction activated in Audio DiffMaker and limited to the first half of the sample. Because the RMS level of this first half is 1 dB lower than the RMS level of the full-size sample, one must increase the difference RMS level figures by 1 dB for comparison with the synchronized mode.

that's pretty good for a laptop. i might check out my wife's ipad mini if i can figure out how to use it...
but i only see one hole on it...so i don't think i can do a loopback.

i used to listen to a couple of cds i have on my mazda cd player . By chance the other day i converted the very same cds into wav to play on my ipod and plug it in my car's aux input . Oh my God , difference was incredible : the ipod DAC is way better than the cd player ... Ipod classic 7th generation

I have added it to the above list of results. I shall check it later on in Matlab since the correlated null depth value is lower than the ones of some tests that achieve lower difference level.

This is a really interesting thread. Thanks for all the effort to make it happen. When I have some free time I'd like to do this test using my converters. Here's what I have:
