Preamps: Mackie Onyx vs. vlz3

I've done some tests with my preamps:
  • Mackie Onyx 800r
  • Mackie 802-vlz3
The files are here (and below)

Vocal and guitar, wav and mp3

The recordings:
- A matched pair of Røde NT-5 SD mics, 3cm/1inch apart.
- I had to use different converters. Onboard conv. for the onyx, and Rme Hdsp 9632 for the vlz3. But I guess the difference is not a big deal.
- Gain matched within 1db
- All takes normalized.

Thanks for the tests. I'm looking for an interface for my home studio. I'm trying to hear as many comparisons as possible.

VLZ3 is more open.. I thing there is a huge difference but still VLZ3 is fine.

For recording, you're better off without the channel attached...

Did you run the "VLZ3" through the board to the outputs? What did you use to convert it to digital?

Haven't used the VLZ3 critically, but it seems just fine for any live work.
