DMP3 Mod clips - post 'em here!

Just did a quick recording with my new JJ Audio Modded DMP3 tonight. Sounds solid.

Acoustic guitar (Martin D-16GT) was recorded in stereo using one AT4033 (hi-pass switch OFF) and one AT4041 (with hi-pass switch ON).

Just a simple thing played, all on E Major, so you can hear individually played strings, as well as some strumming. The modded DMP3 really has some rich bass to it.

No processing at all of course. Just recorded into Pro Tools, and bounced down.
File is a .wav - 44.1 at 24bit.

File size exceeded GS upload limits, so here's a link...

Thank you for exhibiting a sound source.
This is very smooth and warm record.

I also want the candidate for comparison.
If low-end one, high-end one, and this DMP3 that were modified are compared, I will think that it is more wonderful.heh

For someone who doesn't have a big budget, a modded DMP3 is a great investment and would complement very well a Pro MPA II. I will be on the line to suggest this JJAudio mod.

I've been super busy but just thought that I would post this clip that I made today. This is me singing into a Blue Encore 100 dynamic microphone into the JJ Audio DMP3 modded mic pre and then into my Microtrack II recorded at 16 bit 44.1 KHz. I had the gain halfway up on the high gain setting (45 more degrees to all the way up) and I think that it performs very well. The high gain needs of dynamic mics makes this a great test to show what it can do. Kudos to you JJ Audio and I will be sending it back to AZ to put it in the 19" rack mount kit with transformer options.

Cheers,

bcg

Two clips, one with the original DMP3 and one with the modded DMP3 would allow to assess better the benefit from the mod. Here it's not sure that the samples sound good because of the mod. There are so many other factors that contribute to the quality of the sound.

Pre and Post JJ mod dmp3 on drum overheads

Here are some recordings of drum overheads through the same AKG perception small diaphragm condenser (it belongs to a friend, so I don't recall which model it is) to the dmp3 before and after it was modded by JJ audio. The clips are obviously different performances, but the kit, room, sticks, and placement are the same (on close inspection it sounds like the tuning of the kit might have changed a little). Both clips were normalized to 0db in Ableton Live. I apologize for the clipping present in the pre-mod recording. I have since bought some very useful in-line pads. However, despite the clipping, I think it's still possible to get a sense of the pickup characteristics of that mic with the unmodded dmp3.

I like the way both recordings sound, but I think the sound of the sticks hitting the drums is much more detailed and realistic after the JJ audio mod. In other words, the transient response definitely seems to be faster.
