Thumbs up

i vote for #9. most emotional, hyper realistic.
#8 sounds together, hifi, but not as interesting.

And the Answer is: ?

Thanks for the terrific samples. Based on listening with AT ANC7 headphones, my favorite would be number 7. This is quite a challenge for the listeners! My hearing memory needs tuning. Like the others said, great sounding recordings and piano. Please send the answer key.

Thanks, terry M

nice shootout!

7 seemed the most sterile sounding to me, more overall-clarity than the other mics.

8 has a light bump in the lower mids, makes it a little warmer but blurry the same time.

9 i liked the most. softer sounding than 7, very natural.

key please

9, 7, 8

i like the presence of 8, but the noise was problematic in this clip for me

would be curious to hear which mic is which.

Oktava MK-012 with omni cap.

Tell here your mind about them and I will tell you by PM who is who.
I really liked #8! I'm still searching for the best sounding mics for my bright Yamaha C5A. Quite tricky. Any advice? Thanks for all your great shootouts!

key, please

9, 7, 8 - descending order of brightness. No first hand experience with, Steibgraeber, but feel 9 would be more accurate relative to your mic placement. The beautiful upper harmonics in the melody line suffer with 7 & 8. As close as the mics are and with the significant pedaling, not only do you get the brightness from the aliquots, but from the sympathetic resonance of all the sustained notes as well. 7 & 8 certainly sound "nice" but not so realistic as you would hear with your head in the mic position.

Very nice examples.

Hi Didier, I prefer 8, then 7, then 9. In terms of clarity.
Please send me the key and thank you for this shootout!

Thanks for posting the samples - I'd like to see the key.
I prefer 8 over 7 and 9. It struck the right balance between clarity and softness for the mood of this piece. All three mics are definitely usable; the "best" mic just depends on your application (piece/player/room).

Prefer the #8

I prefer the #8 , it has some character.

The #7 sounds not precise et all.

So : #8 , #9 , #7

Key please ?

I prefer 9 because, of the three, it has both a spatial 3D depth and open air around the piano. I prefer 8 over 7 because of its spatial depth, but 8 could use a little EQ to open it up more.

7 sounds best, most refined to me. 8 sounds good and 9 a bit bold. Could you send me the key too, thanks!

I liked the imaging of 8 and 9 the best, 7 had more meat and i liked it, but maybe a little too much midrange and muddiness going on. could be the 3rd middle mic for the stereo pair 8 or 9. it seemed 8 was louder, so i gravitate towards 9, but even 7 seemed to have a good signal to noise ratio. if I had to pick I'd say 9 probably - but id be thinking of a 3rd mic to use for body. can you PM me what they were?

7 is the best because of the noise level. The other 2 is too loud for my dt990pro headphones. The sound of the 8 seems a little better for me though.

Please send me the keys

I would like to hear 4099 as well...
