the ozone v3.x has a (Matching) Linear phase EQ & spectrum analizer
also possible with Waves Q clone.

i think that anyone can take snapshots of any loudspeaker "steal the freq. response & phase" and apply that to any other loudspeaker same size or bigger, to make it sound like other!! ...if done properly.


i taked snapshots of m-audio bx8a & old JBL control VIII similar to new control 5

i think that
if your speakers are good enough, can sound like any other loudspeaker easy!!
A: white noise from MDA TestTone plugin @ -9dB
E: Pink noise from MDA -9dB
F: Pink noise Recorded / Mic from M-Audio BX8a grey, "1.5meter" L mic placement
B: white noise from M-Audio BX8a grey, "far" L mic placement
G: Pink noise from M-Audio BX8a grey, alternate L mic placement"
H: Pink noise from M-Audio BX8a grey, alternate R mic placement
C: Pink noise from JBL Control VIII "old control 5" alternate mic placement "has 1 standinng wave at 2.86khz"
D: Pink noise from JBL Control VIII "old control 5" similar to "far" mic placement

i was trying to find the sweet spot and also the standard 1 meter measurement.

low acustic treated rectangular room, with rode nt1 mic, since Roda NT1a has a fixed Hipass filter, you must manually add in the ozone a hipass filter at 100hz, to compensate.

izotope ozone settings:
Matching 1OO%
Smoothing O%
MDA TestGeneratot plugin set to:
Pink Noise
Output set to -9dB
manually add 1x or 2x hipass filter at 100hz. only when snapshots are ready to be transformed.

Spectrum Analizer set to:
Average Time: 10 sec.
Window size: 8192
Overlap: O%
Window: Hann

Izotope ozone digital EQ works OK at FFT 1024, but higher needs more buffer size & latency compensation to be activated, and sometimes higher FFT EQ does not work well.
my conclutions:
Making the BX8a as source in ozone,
the JBL as destination curve.

and listening the BX8a 1.1" silk soft dome tweeter emulating the JBL 1" control "5" metallic diaphragm tweeter,
both placed in the standard triangular placement, same song, etc...

the BX8a L with Ozone Matching EQ vs. R original JBL control "5" no EQ.
it does recreate the harshness of the JBL control "5" tweeter near 100% perfectly/exactly, and the lack of bass, too. "if hi pass filter is added in ozone, to compensate the Rode NT1a fixed hi-pass filter at 100hz"

BX8a emulating a JBL control "5", it sounded a bit diferent in the mids,
i think the near perfectly "less mids" its becouse the mic not being flat "good" enough in the mids, or the room didnt had good enough acoustic treatment,
anyway, i tested diferent mic placements.
taked the snapshots of m-audio bx8a and jbl control "5" sending pink noise from free mda-vst plugin Test Generator to me is Way better than nuendo/cubase test generator

MDA TestGeneratot plugin set to:
Pink Noise
Output set to -9dB

mic in the sweet spot, facing one loudspeaker usually L @ >1meter. and recorded a few 35sec. aprox. for each snapshot in ozone with spectrum set to:
Average Time: 10 sec.
Window size: 8192
Overlap: O%
Window: Hann

mic-pre gain vs. speaker volume was set to show a record level near -3dB not clipping in the AD

mic-pre gain was near 50% "half" ,
the speaker amp gain also near half gain. or arround listening levels.

i think that leaving the speaker & mic-pre, AD/DA some headroom its important. to avoid the power compression.

#1. input channel was mono, "becouse only 1 mic needed, the channel software send to stereo signal.
#2. audio channel was stereo, "this is important for the ozone plugin, most plugins presets are not mono to stereo compatible".
#3. Monitor Input was turned on in that channel, but DSP Direct Monitoing turned off.
#4. audio channel fader was all way down to -infinite not muted,
but anyway the test generaton plugin breaks the signal, to avoid feedback.

#5. the MDA Test Tone plugin was inserted at the Master channel
#6. mic was placed:
where the Ear usually is "sweet spot", in that rectangular room
taked 2 diferent mic placement/position snapshots.
#7. always the rode nt1 mic was facing one of the speakers, the L speaker
--->i like facing one of the speakers is better than looking to nothing in between of speakers, i hear it gives better results.

LoudSpeakers were tested one at a time.

#8. LoudSpeaker was loud but not clipping no overloading, was like 60%
!!only if i had a radioshack spl meter arround!!

problem #1:::
rode nt1a mic has a fixed internal hi-pass filter, factory set at 1OOHz -6dB or -12dB or -18dB
i had an ADK project G GX-1 that you can open and switch Off the hi-pass filter,
but... not arround at the time for the test.

so, for this snapshots to be near 100% accurate as as possible,
-->you must add a hi-pass filter and set it to 1OOHz to the snapshot emulation, to be accurate.

ozone has a selectable multimode EQ, that can be used for Hipass filter.

#9. to listen the snapshots vs. original LoudSpeaker, must match the gain by ear,
the input gain inside ozone was set to -6dB to match bypass In vs.Out gains.

ozone set to 100% match O% smooth

the snapshot D "JBL control 5" set as target "the loudspeakers to be emulated"
the snaphot F "BX8a" set as source "the listening speakers"

im thinking about purchasing an audix cx-112, it sounds verry transparent to my ears.
i like it. i think will do a great job making snapshots or anything else.

i like more cardioid mics, than omni mics. to make room eq tests, never had good results with behringer ecm8000 becouse it captures too much room, maybe if used verry close to the loudspeaker could work ok.

something between cardioid and hyper-cardioid not omni
i hear it gives better results in a room.
